Master Resale Rights Defined
By Marcel Vinson
What are master resale rights?
With so much information available about private label rights and master resale rights, it can seem pretty confusing to distinguish the differences between the two. First before we go into the differences between the two, it’s important to understand exactly what master resale rights (commonly referred to as MRR) are. So, what are they?
If you purchase the MRR to something (whether it’s a piece of software, an ebook, or a cat), it gives you the rights to sell that same product yourself. The devil is in the details though; you cannot change the product, and you usually aren’t allowed to put your own name on it. That is main the difference between MRR and PLR; you’re allowed to edit PLR and put your name on it, which you cannot do with MRR.
So why should you be interested in purchasing the master resale rights to something?
Well the first major reason is that they usually aren’t that expensive. For only a few dollars more, the ability to resell more copies is pretty handy. Especially if you already have a marketing list of some sort (whether it’s email, Twitter, or Facebook), having the MRR to a quality product can make your life much easier for a few weeks while you work on other projects. Even if you don’t have a list, you can always purchase the rights now and resell the product down the line.
Additionally, many times you are given the option of reselling the master resale rights as well. While it might only be a few extra dollars on a few sales, every little bit counts. On top of that, if you are able to edit the product (read the rights carefully to determine if you are or not), you can put your website in the product and potentially get viral traffic (always a good thing).
Keep in mind that not all products have MRR available, so don’t expect everything that you buy to be resalable. That being said, it never hurts to ask. If you contact the product creator, they might be willing to sell to the MRR as long as they approve your website, or they might not want to risk someone changing the product.
Now that you know what master resell rights are, the next step is to find some products that offer them and add them to your toolbox. There are all kinds of options, from membership sites to MRR online stores.
